Moment to Reflect ( Pt 12 ) - NURI, My Light, my home

A nephew came around one evening about Hari Raya time; and a few days later he surprised me with a picture he took. It is the rear part of our home, the part which faces the sea. I could hardly believe what I saw.

Nuri - My Light

I had my personal reasons for naming this building NURI ( meaning MY LIGHT ) but did not bargain for one looking so striking in the dark, a contrast from its appearance in broad daylight when all its defects, cracks, old paintwork and all, push the rating way down.

Dear Pakcik,
It's heavenly and healthy living with nature giving its best. Al Manar students have a wonderful environment for their studies! Great!

What a beautiful view of your house Pakcik! Looks like something out of an architectural magazine. I used to have a dream of living in a house by the sea or river but ended up living by a big waterway (alur) at the side of my house and whenever it rains heavily or floods, water swells and rises and changes it into a fast flowing river so I have to be content with this once a year phenomena of living by a river hehe..

Hank,

At last it is a book launching, Well done and with that go my whole-hearted congratulations. A house can be built but a book can be lanched without the writing skill tah goes with it. I wish I could be present with those people I know well.

Pak Idrus,

I wish I had the large some of money needed to build a wooden house. IU could not even get the type of hard timber to withstand the salty breeze from the sea.

The pictures you posted of your wooden staircase, verendah and so on arethe true beauty.

Enjoy your wooden home Pak Idrus with your family.

Cikgu Humairi,

Waalaikum Salaam,
Tapi kalau itulah kegemaran betul lah 'Baituka Jannatuka'.

Saya berpada padalah dengan
Nuri waHayati.

Naniasda,

Many would want to have a natural waterway running in the vicinty. Imagine a bunded area with fish and water lilies. If yiou talk of flood, themiddle of KL is about the worst example. With the monsoon storm every year, life may not be that enviable, Naniasda.

One of these days we will drive there equipped with fishing rods and all!

Pak alManar, I see it as a house "out of this world".

Al-Manar said...

Ngasobahseliman,

If you see the silhouette of me standing facing you, you could imagine a truly rugged person with thick limbs and hefty body. Alas, if it is a side view you would sigh,"Oh, what a pouch, and look at the bent back, and how his head reflects light!!".

Believe me, I have no intention of posting a full picture of my house in broad day-light. Nevertheless, your home is your heaven and so is mine - while it lasts. For this reason I catagorise this posting under 'Moment to reflect'.

Zeba,

.. and, for once, you are lost for words!

Thank you Zeba. You need not feel inhibited. Email Psakcik if you have a bee in your bonnet and we will put it right.

Life will always be more beautiful if we care to look at it from many different perspectives. I really enjoyed reading your last entry and looking at all the plants that you and your dear wife have planted around the house. Indahnya dan seronoknya!

Al-Manar said...

Temuk,

I have said it before that I look at you as an expert on plants. You noticed how poorly was our banana plant in the picture , double bends plus support and all just for the fruit to ripen. But your red okra is a hit because it needs very little care!

Omong Mak Long,

Sinaran cahaya yang menjadikan bayangan yang menarik. Bukankah ini hakikat hidup - bayangan?

Salaam kepada OML dan keluarga.
